Find it hard to believe no one else has put this in a tank yet. Anyone?
Is anyone elseanywhere growing this plant? I though seeing as though it grows in Asia as well as Australia this would be a pretty good place to ask.
We can't get Utricularia graminifolia into Australia, so I'd been doing research for a while to see if there were any other species of Utricularia that could be grown in an aquarium that could be found in Australia. I came up with a few, but top of my list was Utricularia uliginosa which is quite closely related to UG and is described in a few places as being able to survive as an affixed aquatic. I tried a few others first, U. subulata, U. blanchetti and U. bisquamata first with no success.
Anyway a fellow aquarist happened upon this plant in his travels one day, so myself and another bloke decided to go out and collect some. Here it is growing in it's natural habitat.
I have mine growing in a few tanks to see what it does. This one has 2 T5HO + 1 T5NO. CO2 is non-existent ATM as I've been lazy with the DIY, but have connected up a new batch tonight. Growing in a thin layer of ADA aquasoil over pool filter sand.
Apologies for the algae over the glass.
I'm going on the description of UG from Tropica and elsewhere overseas in that it will take a few weeks to acclimatise in an aquarium before spreading, and that there may even be die off initially. However I haven't really seen anything like that so far. I'm even noticing some new growth.
I'd be really interested to hear if anyone else is growing this and their experiences.
