Went for a shoot with Robert and my friend on Sunday. Manage to squeeze a few shots before it started raining. Just thought I share.

Damselfly eating a spider (looks like a lynx spider). Too bad by the time I manage to get a decent close-up shot, most of the spider is gone.

Ladybird - first time shooting a furry ladybird. Only manage a few shots before it flew away.

Hi luenny, looks like the weather is getting really wet, think it's better to stay at home and take fish photo...

Used to have lots of damelfly around the pond of my secondary school, they look so harmless, didn't know that they actually feed on spiders...

Yeah, they look harmless. My friend got another photo of a damselfly feeding on another damselfly.

Guess the lighting seems to be very bad for you to boost up your ISO, it's a tad grainy but that's not a big issue.
    Cheers!

    Benetay,
Yeah, agree with you. The weather was bad. Have to push up ISO. The grain is especially evident in the ladybird shot because I have to underexpose the shot a bit due to the reflection on the shell. But then I found out that after I do color correction, the reflection comes back! Darn! Still have to locally darken the reflection a bit. Some more, cropping a bit so the grain is even worse. D200 noise control is bad.

    Richard,
Too bad I took too long to figure out the settings to get the whole damselfly clear at very near distance. By the time I figure it out, the spider's body is almost gone. If I were to get the settings right earlier, you would have seen the spider's legs hanging out of the damselfly's mouth. I got a few shots of that but all got blur damsel eye or spider because DOF too shallow.

2 more shots of some strange beetle. Can someone help me ID please?

    1. This is fairly common and about 1 - 1.5cm in size.

    2. This one's bigger, size of on adult cockroach. Taken in Venus Trail.

Ladybirds have always been furry...just that we cannot really see that it is so that well...

The last few shots of the beetles
    1st one is a pretty common Family : Chrysomelidae, Sub-family : Criocerinae, Genus : Oulema...i think...
2nd one looks so pretty.. i also want picture of this one...hmmm..Not too sure what it is but i think i have a rough idea from collecting enough of its cousins..haha..

Added my photo, some of them taken using luenny tripot. I guess that the best my lens can do. Can't go any sharper unless upgrade to dedicated macro lens. Nevertheless, good Sunday excercise

It was raining so did not really take much photo.

    Justin,
Are you back in Singapore already? Maybe we can go shoot again sometime. Thanks for the ID of the first one.

    Robert,
You can do better than this. Just keep practicing and get a macro lens and a tripod.
