    Hi,

I went to do some research on this NH3 and NH4. For what I understand that NH3 is toxic to fish. I have this API ammonia test kit it show me 4.0ppm and I read from the internet that test kit give u total NH3 and NH4 but does not tell you about NH3 alone which I need to calculate out myself from the table. I got reading for NH3 0.033 from Seneye.

So my question is which one should I take note NH3 or NH3 + NH4?

    Thanks for reading =)

    Re: NH3 vs NH4

NH3 becomes NH4 in pH less than 7 (Acidic). NH3 is extremely toxic and NH4 is less toxic. Since both toxic NH3 + NH4 should be 0. Normally test kits measure NH3+NH4 and even if it shows 4ppm by API kit it is really bad. API kit is correct most of the timeIF this is an established tank with fish inside reduce bioload and increase bio filter asap. I don't know Seneye's accuracy eventhough it measures free NH3.
