Hi all, just bought a bottle of above to experiment with the EI method and need some advice on the usage. Below is the instruction from seachem website. So, if I'm targeting nitrate of 5 ppm in my 80 gallon tank, I should use the formula:

0.05*80*5=20 ml for 3 times a week (according to EI)

Is this correct?

DIRECTIONS: BEGINNER: Use 2.5 mL (half a cap) for each 160 L (40 gallons*) twice a week or as needed in response to signs of nitrogen deficiency (e.g. stunted growth, chlorosis). For smaller doses, please note that each cap thread is approximately 1 mL. EXPERT: The beginner dose raises nitrogen by the same degree that 1 mg/L nitrate would. This dose is sufficient to provide approximately 4 g of growth (dry) or about 20 g (hydrated) over a 1 month period (assuming all other necessary nutrients are provided). For increased growth use proportionately more. To target a specific nitrogen increase, dose according to the following formula: 0.25vn=m, where v= volume of tank in gallons*, n=desired nitrogen increase (if using a “nitrate equivalent” value for “n” then use a factor of 0.05 instead of 0.25 in the formula) and m=volume of product to use in mL. For example to raise 20 gallons* by 0.20 mg/L nitrogen you would use: 0.25*20*0.20=1 mL.

Before dosing you should measure the nitrate level first. Yes you've got it the formula right. I'm also using this product. Not sure about EI method but based on your workings, 20ml of nitrogen will give you 5 ppm of nitrate. So if you're dosing 3 times a week, wouldn't it be 15ppm? I'm afraid that the sudden increase of nitrate will trigger more algae growth.

Thanks bro but according to EI, it's should be between 5-25 ppm of nitrogen 3x a week. I measured my nitrate using Tetratest but as my test kit can only detect lowest level at 15 ppm, my level should be between 0-15 ppm but not sure exactly how much. However, after I did the first dose of 5 ppm, my plants seem more vibrant Will continue with 5 ppm 3x a week to monitor the results.

Yeah my nitrate level is always 0 ppm. That's why I'm also dosing.

Are you using this as part of a range of other solutions? I am curious as to why you only bought Seachem Nitrogen and not the others in the range that is also required for EI dosing.

I am also experimenting with EI method and is also confused with this part of the instructions: does one doses 3 x 5 ppm to achieve 15 ppm, or do we dose 3 x 15 ppm to achieve 15 ppm?

The advise I had received so far is to dose 3 x 15 ppm, but wouldn't this gives us 45 ppm?
