How are Slopes of Grass Created?

Hi all,

I was just looking through some Amano tanks (drool....) and would am puzzled by how he creates the steep slopes on which he grows glosso, hairgrass etc?

Does he use rocks and piles them up? Or does he create the effect with sloping substrate? Or does he have such long grass that he can trim slopes out of them?

Would appreciate it if the Singapore experts can enlighten dumb old me.....
