With the antibotics, how does it affects your Filter systems especially the Bio aspects. I believe the anitbotics is harmful or may kill the "Good Bateria" as well. Pls advice.

After 2 weeks, I'm discovering BGA in the soil at the front of the glass, seems they lie dormant during the concentrated treatment and readies itself for another "invasion". Seems im unable to allow the medication to really sink in to be effective.

For now clearing them as i do every wc, keeping NPK+trace / oxygen constant with good flow rate, as for co2 DIYed; i have no control but intend to use less yeast 1/8 teaspoon with 2 cups of sugar instead of 1/4 and hope bubble rate drops to 1bps constant.

    Hi torque6,

Thank you, for the link above (by www.myfishtank.net/blue-green-algae-article). The insight is really reassuring. I strongly encourage anyone with BGA problem to check out the article. It dispels a lot of misconception or myth associated with BGA. Now, I have to find a lead to get hold of some erythromycin. Anybody there have lobang?

Something may still be wrong even if you have eradicate the BGA with antibiotics. Make sure your tank is densely plant. BGA in substrates mean the bacteria is still there and waiting to pounce.

Its my diy co2, it was leeching ammonia back into the tank after 4 weeks of bubbling, could be due to the yeast dying off; slowed bubble. I had a reading of 0.2ppm ammonia and had to change water in the middle of the night.

Next week my co2 tank will come, hopefully i keep things stable. Intend to get 2 more pots of Jap HG to fill up the spaces.

Hi Torque6, can you provide an update over your setup ie plant and water parameters? Do you think it is possible to email ([email protected]) the place where I can get some erythromycin?

Ive change to NA's co2 system today, keeping bps at 1 bubble per 2 second with 12w of light together with weekly dosing of NPK + trace , 1 drop each ; less than 1ml for a 9L tank. Will continue to monitor BGA. but so far its been good.

2 days and BGA is creeping out of the soil again. Looks like the infection is soil deep. Will keep dosing NPK/trace twice weekly to ensure both moss/hg will be able to outcompete it. But an observation is that the BGA isnt bubbling like it used to when i was using DIY co2. It just creeps...

Dispite having a pressurised co2 with constant ferts regime, BGA is creeping, think my tank exposed to too much ammonia spikes in recent months to "really" recover already.

The only difference now is its pace of invasion. Much slower than when i first setup my DIY co2, Ive also noticed BGA no longer bubble. I wonder why..

Hi- it is not about bubble per second thing. make sure it is 20ppm-30ppm of C02. plant densely. start with easy grower. slowly add back the plants you want to keep.

I do not have drop checker, wouldnt be able to determine levels of co2 since KH=0. However, with a more stable co2, i am able to keep BGA at a slower growth rate. The mistake i made in about half a year back was to setup with a sparing planted tank and expected everything to grow out nicely, so am facing this issues even now.

If you check from the threads, my advise to alot of people trying for new setup is to always plant densely. They dont have to make the same mistakes as i do.

some areas of bga is clearing up after 2 weeks with my last dose of mycin a month ago, its a slow process, but its working somehow. However, i did notice some other spots are creeping BGA. I am not sure if my nerite snails are "eating" them since no algae eaters even touch them..

hmm what i personally found effective against BGA was a simple blackout. I did a 50% water change, made sure the filter was unclogged, switched off all my light timers, wrapped the tank with newspaper to ensure no light sneaked in and waited 3 days (didn't even feed the fish to prevent light entering). 3 days later, i unwrapped the tank and the BGA was gone

Tried that for a week, but observed them to be able to survive even in the dark as i found them photosynthesisng in the dark and my plants all suffer

Should be ok for now, they seem to be undercontrol and not spreading as fast as before when i first used DIY co2.
