    hi guys,

    how do you tell female trifasciata from other female apisto species?

    no distinct colours to differentiate.. i find it a little hard.

    any experts can shed some light?

    Females are usually very difficult to differentiate for some species as they can look very similar. Also, you have to determine which species you are comparing to. With that you can look at any documentation available either on the net, magazines or books for pictures or descriptions.

    Generally, females from different groups/complex can be differentiated by their shape, finnage, designs on their caudal, dorsal and anal fins if there are any. Other traits include the lateral bars, vertical bars, lateral spots on their body.

    I'm sorry i do not have pictures of a female A. trifasciata. But these are some pictures of other females to get my points across.
