    Hi...

I had a 4ft tank which had been set up 3yrs ago. I do have co2 operate 24hrs...and lights on for 6 hours in the morning and another 4 hours at night when i back. I change the water(1/3) once a week...

It is with some low maintenance plants and some amount of amount of fishes...

During the initial setup, i did lay a layer of fertilizer and then a layer of sand.

Recently i noticed the plant had not been growing well...and there are a lot of BBA on the sand and plants too...

Wondering whether is it time for me to put in more fetilizer? Thanks...

You may also try heavy maintenance package such as :

    1. Deep gravel vacuuming
    2. Plant trimming
    3. Filter cleaning
    4. Replacing ill plants
    5. Water change
    6. Add substrate supplement tablets after overhauling
    7. Introduce sparse liquid fertilizer and low dosage of excel if needed.

If you need help, i suppose giving us specifc parameters , as well as the equipment you are using. You indicate co2 24hrs ? This i presumme yeast+sugar. Further more, with already base fert, can minimise liquid fert. How about your tank, overcrowded with fish?

    hi....my co2 is not diy...
my base fert had been lay 3 yrs ago....and i seldom use liquid fert....i only use it occassionally....
As for fishes....i gues only less than 10...hahhah....
plants also getting lesser and lesser.....as not growing well.....

may i know what specific parameters are u looking at?? do u mean that i need to get some test kit to show the value of nitrate, ph, etc? thanks

hmm, base ferts usually deteriorates in about 1-2 years, could be why the soil is no longer able to sustain the growth on your plants.

ya, test kits to give us a rough numeric on your PH/ammonia/nitrate/nitrite as such.

normally for a planted tank.....a owner will need to revamp it like once every 2yr?
so sorry....i do not have any test kit with me....i am those who just goes by experience and advices from other..kekke...that why my planted tank does not have much fishes or plant..

Fill up the template given in this section and maybe you can get more specific type of help you need. Without much info, all you can get is general advice. BBA is a CO2 issue with respect to the amount of light you have on your tank (Namely not enough.).

I agree with peter, try and pinpoint the area first by reducing/increasing that variable. BBA is a serious issue so don't waste too much time.

Thanks for all the advices again.
However while at the same time about to focus the bba problem.....i guess my tank is going to give way soon....as i noticed the silicon on the edge is tearing off...waters are sipping thru....sigh!

Hence today i am ordering a new 4ft tank and will be getting new substrate too...as the current substrate is too difficult for me to remove those BBA.

As for my log and plant...there are also BBA there...wondering how should i remove it before moving over to the new tank? if i am not wrong, there are many yamato hiding in the log too...thanks
