Ratio of watt/gallon .

What is the ratio of watt/gallon to determine that it is high lighting? currently mine is 1watt/1 gallon.. and definitely that's too low to enable my plants to bubble. Therefore, how what will be the sufficient ratio ?

depends on your tank size. Its 3w per gallon and it doesnt apply to nano tanks.

The depth of your tank is important.

Then shouldnt be a problem, just the ideal 3watt per gallon rule, by the way, what plants are you intending to keep ? High/med/low light plants ?

i Intend to keep medium plants .. and the problem i face now will be:
1: My tank has a hood which only enable me to put 3 tubes.
3X30 = 90 , 90/60 = 1.5. Therefore the ratio now is only 1.5 w/g.
Went to LFS and ask whether they have 54watt tube. Only solution is change to T5 set. There highest watt for normal tube is 30watts only.
2: With high intensity of lights, the temperature is higher. The temperature in my tank now is 31 degree celcius. Thought of installing fans, but there are no place to clip the fan on or even attach to it. ( because of the stupid hood).
Chiller will be out of my budget...

Well guys .. pls give me ur ideas and solutions .. i am definitely open to all ideas and solutions and will be more than ahppy to see u guys responding. I am sure i am not the only one facing this problem =) ha..

yes yes i think changing to T5 would be a good idea, opt for the open hood ones, they store less heat. moreover you have space to install fans, maybe 2 would do the job. 31 deg is quite high and will only sustain quite hardy plants like java fern. unless thats the look your looking for

fishes would also prefer slightly cooler temps, round 26-28.

i may be selling my 4ft pl light (4x36w) set, bout 2.4 watts p/g. and nana is bubbling alr!

im upgrading to MH soon

time that i get serious with this hobby, well if ur still looking for a set i may let go when the MH comes, but the supplier delayed the order so i dont know when its coming in, hopefully by next 2 weeks.
