Hi all, just to share with everyone my joy. Recently purchase viejita pair have just lay eggs. their in a community tank with another pair of hongsloi
You better keep a close lookout, community tank...high chances of having eggs eaten.

Eggs eaten by the parents?? i am thinking of shifting the hongsloi pair out. and all the other fishes in the tank. just leave the whole 2 ft for the viejita for a month.

Yup just leave only the Viejita pair in the 2ft will do. If too many other fishes the female will be very busy chasing them and chances of eggs being eaten is high with too many fishes in it.

Just took some pictures of the happy mother and her batch of eggs. Till from the eggs is lay till now is 24 hours.

Just notice that some of the eggs is missing. the female seems to be eating some of the eggs. Is this normal?

She maybe shift the eggs to other places or she was stress and ate up the eggs.

oh she is able to shift the eggs?? never knew. just took a photo today, just happen to see the eggs count drop by a bit. some of the eggs and no longer at the spot when i compare the pictures

Oh.. just leave her don't stress her too much or she will ate up all the eggs. Just wait for free swimming fries to appear..

ok noted, by the way usually it takes 3 days for fries to hatch right?
some of the eggs might have gotten fungused and thus were eaten by the female to prevent the fungus from spreading to the healthy eggs.
it takes 3-4 days for the eggs to hatch into wrigglers and another 3-4 days for the wrigglers to start free swimming. In my experience, the female does not shift the eggs before they hatch into wrigglers. at wriggler stage, though, she may move them around several times
wow seems like the female apisto is very attentive to the spawn. hopefully that is what she is doing at the moment and not eating the eggs because she is stressed.
Just don't paste your face so close to the tank and stare at her too long. This may spook her. Also, she may not be eating the eggs but rather, she is cleaning them.

Found out this morning during my daily check that nearly all the eggs is gone. guess this young pair of viejita still have alot to learn about caring for the eggs and fertilizzation. Hopefully the next time they spawn it will be a better batch.
