better monitor your ammonia and nitrate level, given the high protein food your arrowana is taking.
Hi All,
This is my Peaceful Arowana living together with a school of small fishes in a 4 x 2 x 2ft planted tank.
Those small fishes have been there for months and surprisingly, my arowana only eat the froggies that i fed him.
Feel free to comment!

Interesting... how long have you been keeping this Arowana?
Ya.. really need to monitor my ammonia level as i am experiencing BBA outbreak.
I have been keeping this arowana since 2005...
Did you do anything special to stop it from wiping out the tank of small fish? Also do tell how big was it when it was introduced to the small fish and which was in the tank first, aro or fishies? Thanks.
what species are those red little fishes?

For the small fishes , can see some rasboras ( not sure is Harlequine or espei), 1 black tetra and mostly rosy barbs?

<Fish are Friends, not food>
Hi SithSpawn, i did not do anything to curb his desires. when i first bought him at about 6 inch long, i bought him a pack of feeders. But to my surprise, after taking one bite of the fish, He just spit it out and ignore the rest from then on.. thats when i realise his preference is towards frogs and not fish.
So this give me the opportunity to keep Planted tank with Arowana and other small fishes. But predator being a predator, if i starve him for days, he will still get a quick bite on those small fishes while waiting for me to feed him the real food.
As for Cacatuoides question, bro WaterH20 got most of the fishes but there are others cardinals tetra and cherry barbs that is not in the picture.
Here is a picture of the surviving feeders that i kept in my oscar tank.
They are super huge now...
Wow.. I like the whole tank and the peaceful aro....
Cheers!
I've never seen such a large fish in a planted aquarium. Great looking tank.

Wow,
I would just love to go for a tank like that.
My pearl Aro doesnt go after small feeders but bites any big fish introduced.
Have failed trying to put plants in his tank. HE will just uproot all the plants.
But looking at that photo will definitely try to introduce some platys in his tank.

Always a Newbie
Ha! It looks so surreal to see an Aro in a planted tank with Tetra's and other small fish.

Agreed with all the comments here, what u have achieved seems quite rare and amazing, to keep arowana in planted community tank, thumbs up for you
You have introduced a whole new dimensions to aro keeping![]()
I was aware that small fish such as tetra's can be "scared senseless" when in the company of bigger fish such as discuss. But an Aro, i'm amazed some arent too frightened to come out. It seems an entirely surreal situation. I can't even begin to imagine how it came about in the first place.
Makes me want to achieve a planted tank for my Dempsey's. But i fear there diggin' will prove to troublesome![]()

Got a friendly aro once, had been keeping it since young (before it got its 1st taste of blood) thus it didn't attack the tetra. As for the tetra, guess it kindda got used to it seeing it grow big... just sad that it jumped out one day and committed suicide.
Dear All,
An update to my Arowana planted Community tank.
However, slight change to the community... now with Frontosa and other Cichilids.
Comments are welcome!
Lucky feeders you have. From feeders become pets., they should thank your aro for that. Haha...
