If you have less than 6-10 neons, they will show some atypical behaviour, including some aggression. In a shoal they generally are pretty peaceful, and tend to be less stressed than kept in smaller numbers.
2 out of my 4 neon tetras are behaving aggressively towards the rest of their tank mates. They used to shoal together...only changes recently is the water change (30%and lowering of pH from 7 to 6.5 using leaves, tank water became really stained because of the leaves. Please advise.... They seems to be guarding certain territory...

i have 30 neons in my 2 feet planted tank
i notice a few are pretty aggressive, will they pose any danger?
i only have neon tetras and cherry shrimps inside the tank
"Mock fighting" behaviour within neon tetra is normal. The male will size up each other, fight and chase the female all over the tank. Some time after a day or two of chasing, they will spawn. Change of water is known to induce spawning.
It is quite a gratifying experience to see fishes in your tank spawn. So behold.
