    I'm getting someone to build 2 tanks for my new cabinet.

    The first tank is 60cm X 60cm X 550cm(h) and the other is 125cm X 600cm X 800cm(h).

    I'm toping the water up to 90% full.

    Is there any problem with the size? Will the tank give way?

    Please advise.

    Just make sure yr glass is thick enough. Think saver to go for 10mm all round with 12mm base.

    1L of pure water is ~ 1kg...

    But for freshwater tanks, we have sand, wood++++ can be very very heavy. Let the carpenter know the weight burden.
    The key to success is patience. If that fails, screw the guy in front of you!!

    did you make a a mistake?
    550cm = 5.5m
    600cm = 6.0m
    800cm = 8.0m

    do you mean 60cm x 60 cm x 55cm and 125cm x 60cm x 80cm?

    anyway, calculate the weight and inform the carpenter.
    they should be able to biuld you a cabinet that can withstand the weight.

    Most cabinets would not be able to take the weight.

    Assuming your tanks size are
    60x60x50 & 125x60x80.

    The combined weight is approx. 800kg.

    I suggest building a steel frame inside the cabinet, though certain timber is suitable to carry such loading, but pls get them to treat the wood for termites and woodworm

    Well, if you look carefully, the tank below is very near to the ground. I'll make a platform for the thnk below. As for the tank above, I argee the it'll have to be reinforce by a metal structure.

    Simon, Thanks for reminding to treat the wood for fungus and insects infection. I almost forgot this part.

    My concern is not whether the cabinet can support the weight as mentioned earlier the top tank will have metal structure support and the tank below is very near to the ground. I'm more worried if the size and shape of the tank could substain the water pressure!

    Any expert here could advise if the size is pratical?

    Thanks.

    Mistake again? I'm sure you meant 1250mm x 600mm x 800mm, right?

    i suggest u get a cabinet made of cheng ai wood
    read somewhere that kind of wood is used for making boats
    hence i believe its more suited for making cabinets for tanks but aint too sure of e mechanical stress that it can handle
