anyone care to share some information?![]()
hi guys,
I have recently got a new 20 gallon tank to house a pair of apistogrammas, however i have a few odd questions that i'd like to throw at you..i have kept apistogramma before, but only with cardinal tetras...
How are Apistogrammas with slow moving water?
Also, does anyone keep Killifish (specifically gardneri sp.) with Apistogrammas? And how about Croaking Gouramis (Trichopsis vittata)?
Both of these species seem to like the same acidic and soft waters that Apistogramma species appreciate.
I should add the tank will be quite heavily planted.
Thanks for any imput.
James

Hi James,
I think a 20 Gal tank is fine, especially if it's heavily planted. These fishes don't exactly enjoy very fast waters. Killifishes are mostly from Africa and the Gouramis are from Asia. However, I believe they can be help in the same setup. I have previously done that in a 2 ft tank for a while before I changed it to an all south american fauna tank.
Hope that's helpful to you.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
Yep, should be fine, i kept Trichopsis vittata with a pair of Apistogramma cacatuoides in the past, as well as a 2 feet tanking housing Fundulopanchax gardneri, Aplocheilichthys normani and a pair of Ap. trifasciata.
Apistos enjoy slow-moving water, so that should be fine too.
Will have to keep an eye out if the apistos spawn though.. the fry might end up as snacks for the gouramis and killifishes![]()
Just got my 1st pair of Apisto Aga from C328.... My 3 ft tank have some tetras and 2 golden sucker fish.... Will the 2 sucker fish cause any damage if my Apisto pair breed? Can some experts here please advice.... Thanks!

Hi Fishsee;
In any cases of your Apistogramma breeding, i think it will be your golden sucker fishes that will suffer...The female apistogramma will turn very aggressive when she in brood caring..In any case that the female cannot protect the fries well en ough, the male will also join in the task of caring for the fries.

What species of tetra do you keep? The tetras would probably start snacking on the fry if your apistos breed...
I'm have a few neon tetra and lamp eye in my tank.... will they cause any danger....
Btw, my tank PH is between 6.8 - 7. Is it ok for my Apisto to breed in this PH?
Try to achieve pH 6 to 6.5 if you are breeding them. Can be done by using sera peat if you are not using ADAsoil.
As for your dithers, they will do fine with your apistos. When the fries are free swimming, remove the dithers. Do a seach on dithers in this forum. There is a thread with many different views and will be helpful to your enquiries.
