Nice finage. Wish you have some close up shots to admire the colouration.

Another superb specimen. Beautiful fins and form. Very nice picture taken too!

And i want to correct some misunderstanding here. Its not a blue variant. If fact, i do not think there are any blue variant A. bitaeniatas. Alike many other species of apistogrammas, the finnages of bitaeniatas are naturally blue. They only turn reddish upon aggression. Like wise as mentioned in a very old thread, when bitaeniata flares at the female (just like your picture), the colouration of their finnage is different from when they are flaring at a potential aggressor. Usually more bluish then red when they are displaying at females. He wouldn't want to go all red and frighten his would be mate away right? Hehe...

It should look similar to the flaring shots in this RVA site if you were to put another male apisto or a mirror into the tank. See picture number 9 and the last picture when he is not flaring (bluish).
    http://www.rva.ne.jp/apisto/ap_bita_manaquiri.html

I could take a perfectly blue A. bitaeniata too if i do not let him flare at the mirror. But my preference is always to shoot them when they are extremely angry. Hence the always "red" variant.

Like i mentioned, put a mirror in and let him flare at his own reflection. Thats when you will see the "true" beauty of Apistos (at least to me).

Another fellow forumer also did mentioned, all apistos are beautiful when they are flaring.

Oh doubleace, a WORD OF CAUTION....
    ..
    ..
    ..
If you see your A bitaeniata in the angry display, it means you have been injected with another lethal dose of the apistogramma poison. So...TURN BACK WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!

What do you mean about the orange variants? There are yellow/orange variants A. bitaeniata just like this one in the link due to the polychromatism trait of this specie. Well, he would be orange-blue when not in the aggressive mood. And orange-red just like this picture when angry.

Already got 70% of the poison.. Thats why i choose to only concentrate on bitaeniata collection if can. If not collection all different types of nice spices that will be never ending.

I will be trying out 1 pair of wild betta soon... Hope I can control!!

hmm ok, you said "If fact, i do not think there are any blue variant A. bitaeniatas. Alike many other species of apistogrammas, the finnages of bitaeniatas are naturally blue", but the bitaeniata i had was purely orange without blue, so i was a little confused about that
