Finally my wife give me a green light to acquire a 6 ft tank cause it will look nice in my new house. But the problem is that there are so many choices and i dun what what type of biotope i want to go into. Maybe you can give me some suggestion or else my wife will use it as a bathtub. How about the filter? I will appreciate if you all can give me some suggestions.

Congrats, first of all.. wat kinda fish u want? that will determine the biotope.. u can oso do a nature aquarium (fishes from diff places but the same requirement) as for the filter, either use a wet/dry system or simply hook up 2 big cannister filter

If you have not bought your might want to consider two 3 foot tanks instead. Then can have more variety.

Other than planted, want to consider the following?
    - Tanganyikan or Malawi Lake Cichlid tank
    - Open concept planted tank
    - Terrarium
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

I finally move to my new house which is a bungalow in Bukit Timah. I am now consider whether to have a 8 ft tank at my house cause of the ample space i have now. I would to to acquire how much is a 8 ft tank cause i intend to put a few arowanas inside. As a Chinese, i believe they will give me good luck in my business and prosperity to me.

wah man.... I envy you... 8 foot... *drool* Anyway, for large tanks you might wanna go for custom made. Local tank makers like coral reef can do it. However, if money is no object, i.e. you don't mind spending 20-30K on your setup, you can always go to aquatechnic and get their tanks with the full dupla setup... very nice finishing... but so very expensive.

If you go to Aquatechnic(sp?), hold on to your jaw when you ask for the price. []

I know what you mean... went there 2-3 years ago looking for a new 5 footer... she showed me a beautiful looking tank... second hand, and was trying to sell the tank and associated pumps and stuff for 15K. Me and my wife has a hard time trying to keep a straight face...

I went there last year looking for tanks. What blew me was the price... 4K for one tank alone, without the bells and whistles. A little over the a tenth of that price got me all my current 3 tanks.

What royally PISSED me off, was the rudeness of the lady and how she assumed that I know nothing about planted tanks. I am no expert, but hell, I do know something and I do not appreciate ppl discounting all the time and effort I had spent learning about planted tanks. She was boasting about how their tanks are low maintainence etc. Sheesh, even I had that kind of money and willingness to spend, I wouldn't spend it on them.

I swore never to go back there again.

For a 8' tank , it would be good if the consturction of the tank is done on site , like simon mentioned it's too risky during transport!. No problem to keep a few unless they're juvenile but if you're thinking of putting all adult aros in the tank ! better not lah ! coz' adult aros tends to be aggressive and territorial !.

how come petsafari can manage to keep several aro in one tank?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
