Feeding self hatch BBS is the best. Never try decap BS eggs.

illumnae is the one who strongly recommand me decap brine shrimp though, i try feeding them to my few weeks old endler(guppy) fries, they feed it readily, so i guess it will have no problem with apisto fries..
and somemore it just take 10mins to soak them to feed... hatching BBS need around 1 day.

oops.. sorry if I gave a wrong impression.

So far have tried from powder dry food to self hatch BBS, so self hatch BBS is best on my limited tries..

May try decap BS eggs one day if my Apisto Aga spawn and am still waiting for it..

all along when i started keeping them, this male has beeen very very shy when it comes to flaring in its reflection using a mirror..
spent quite sometime trying to get this guy to flare at his own reflection.. and this is what i got..
im also quite surprised, usually when he flared at the female.. the colour of the tail are colourless.. when he flare at the mirror.. i noticed the tail turn reddish.. there was a point whereby it really turn quite reddish but i did'nt manage to take a picture of it as it dashed to its hiding space when i got too close..

this is the female.. colour have been rather weird.. some times quite yellow sometimes not yellow.. i do hope they don't spawn for the next 1 month.. if not it will be hard for me to shift them.

usual colour of male when searching for NLS pellets.

your male is not bad nls really helps in bringing out the colours

for the flaring that you've observed, it's a different reaction when flaring at another male (or in this case the reflection) and at the female. when he flares at another male blood rushes to his fins/tail and it turns red. i think it's so he looks more threatening. this happened with my Ap. bitaeniata too, and i believe it's documented in some other species as well.

genes can probably explain it to you better as he was the one who taught me about this behaviour

thanks bro, yea totally agree that NLS was one great food.. they totally ignore decap BS eggs and only dash for NLS food.

oh... no wonder the tail suddenly turn red when it flare at the mirror..

Bro, nice finnage. that's why i brought myself the pair of trifasciata.

Found that the male trifasciata very "violent", flipping of tails to female was way much too strong. Very impatient, always swim in a circle near the female's cave. super horny ! like wanted to "rape" the female. Wonder how they going to mate like that.

haha, thats what my traifasciata is doing.. but it seems like the female is not ready.. right now the male will get to flare at its own reflection about half an hour a day.. trying to train his guts up!

Congrats on the spawn. Maybe you can isolate the male to prevent it from eating up of the fries and also treating his whitespot or whatever.

    hi guys.
remember around 3 weeks ago i had my first spawn? later the male ate all of them right?
to my biggest surprise.. i was doing a WC today and i spot something moving suddenly.. i took a closer look and i saw a apisto fry which is from the first spawn.. i was shocked and quickly siphon out to a tub, i put in back in the tank in a breeding box.. this fry should be 3 weeks old and around 1cm long..
heres a picture of him/her in the breeding box.. hope there's more among the plants!
