Ben's trifasciata pair is a good buy. The pair was quite small when he just bought them, as they grew bigger....the colors and finage developed and became really beautiful.

hey guys... an update.. both male and female have been eating well.
but i removed the dithers for almost a week and i noticed the female having a few splits at the tail.. was quite worried.. so i guess having dithers inside is better.. bought 7 ember tetra yesterday.
picture of the female.
male flaring.. sorry about the hair grass
his lovely home.. he build a "cave" under the plants on the left side...

yesterday found the female very yellow..
just now came back.. saw my oto kena chased by the female when it got closed to the cave.. i got suspected and went and peek at the cave with a torch light.. was very happy to spot quite alot of eggs..
haha think i got to remove the dithers and the male!...

Good luck. Try not to disturb the female too much by constantly shining light into the cave.

thanks... yea, now since i know theres eggs, don't think i will go look at it so much.. will wait for the mum to bring the fries out.
anyway, do i need to remove the male if i don't see him going near the cave? his hiding in his own built "cave" among my plants..

yeah you better dont do anything to them. I took some photograph for them and end up the next 2 days the eggs are all gone. Learning from my mistake now. Have a hongsloi pair breeded, now all become wrigglers already. think by tomorrow will become free swimming. Hopes yours will be free swimming soon. Take usually 1 week latest to see free swimming fry i think.

i placed my pot directly on the soil.. forget to tilt up a bit.. so i only manage to see part of the eggs.. hopefullly nothing goes wrong.. still thought of planting all my floated stem plants back(the male went around digging for his own cave ended up lots of my stem plants uprooted).. luckily i found out the eggs eariler..
anyway, normally how long does it take then the female will bring the fries out for a swim?

should be the time when their able to swim freely i think, from the past thread i read, usually 1week u can see them out wit the mother already. I am having my pair of hongsloi in the same tank now. dont intend to take out the male.

okay.. will try not to disturb the take.. will only take the dithers out...
if nothing goes wrong, you should see free swimming fry in 6-8 days

okay thanks for your info.. meanwhile i will go buy a pack of decap brine shrimp...

update : the eggs have turned to wrigglers.. hopefully they can grow up heathily =)
Thats a good news.. Hope to see more updates from you..![]()

Here's mine, some time ago. One of the nicest one I ever owned.
Another shot....I think the hobbist in HK call it "yellow-face".

...I love rubies too ...
Ken
nice yellow face and wine red streak on the tail Kenexcellent dorsal finnage too! i find alot of locally trifasciatas are lacking the wine red colouration you can see in the higher quality ones on rva...quite a pity as i think high quality trifasciatas are beautiful!

wow.. very nice trifa you got there ken! mine is nothing compared to yours
anyway, today saw another 'hole' just beside the pot.. so took a torch and was surprised to see the pot empty and the female have shifted the fries to the hole beside the pot.. the fries seems to be free-swimming already but im not very sure..
will be brewing BBS tomorrow!
the hole among the plants..
i guess im lucky.. the female was not very aggresive towards the male and the male was very "auto" as he remain in the left part of the tank most of the time.. the fins of the male was still intact..
the parents started having ich(aka white spot) few days ago, was told to get a heater, set the heater at 31.5~C.. have been running it for 2 days... some of the ich is no longer visible on the parent's fin..
anyway, heres a tank shot.. my male always rush here rush there ended up my plants was uprooted by him...
