Here's the scenario...I've got a current setup running with 55watts of PL lighting. Then i've got another spare 40W lightset lying around. I'm in the midst of deciding if my current 55watts lightings are not enough, could i use my 40watt lightset as an addition? But here comes the problem, the tubes are blue. I understand that plants require different spectrum of lights for growth. How does the addition of 40watt BLUE PL lighting affect current setup besides maybe say, temperature? Would this be equivalent to 50+40=90watts of lighting? Or would the addition of blue lights be redundant as blue is the incorrect spectrum of light required by flora and thus setup would still technically have 55watts? Not sure how this works, hope to hear some inputs regarding this matter!

Anyone has any idea on the positive or negative aspects of including blue lights in a planted environment? For example 2 blue and 2 white 24W, 10000K T5 tubes. Quite puzzled by effects of it.

My guess will be that the spectrum of the 10K lights will not be fully utilised by the plants. Since you are using it as the additional lights, I suggest you may want to just give it a try and monitor your plants from there.

adding a 40w blue light to your existing 55w white light will result in 95w lighting. as Jacian has suggested, give the blue light a try and monitor your plants.

Thanks for the inputs, will see how it goes. Never read up on anyone using 2different spectrum of lights in a planted setup hence wondering if it'd actually work? Will read up more and observe plant growth.
