I have only only lapis sand and JBL fertilizer balls around the roots of the plants. Added 20ml of sea chem flourish and about 5 bps of CO2.
Turn on about 8 hours of lighting (2X80W) and a cooling fan.
I hope this works as its rather similar to what I did previously just that the tank is 0.5 feet deeper . Hope the lighting is strong enough to reach those at the bottom.

    Welcome to the 5ft club.

The tank is tall! Any problems planting at the bottom?
How about planting some Crypt balansae variety that will grow long and nice to about 2ft or so?

I did not expect it to be that tall. After standing on a stool , i am not able to reach the bottom of the tank ( without the hood) . After a few days , my back really hurt . I am still checking out what plants to add . Some tall ones will be good .

Better take care of your back. Suggest some of these slow growing plants like tall Crypt balansae, larger Echinodorus and more Ferns/Anubias on driftwood which you can take out to do maintenance.

    Take care.

With lots of free lapis from razer1229's friend James , I built a terrace with about 25 kg of Lapis. Almost broke my back gain ......
The sand really come in useful ....thanks to James & Razer1229. . However with only 2X80W at 2.5ft , the plants are growing real slow. Last week , I turn on another 80W , now i have 3X80W running 8 hours with 1 hour black out in between . my wife will scream if she gets the power bills next month ....

An finally the first Discus residence migrated from my old tank .......

Less than an hour in the new tank , they are happily eating away blood worm with my wood shrimp...

    Checking out their new home.....

Good space for Discus. This tank will look even better when it matures. I will removed the plants of the right and just have the open space though, it's a bit distracting now.
    ...I love rubies too ...

ywl, lots of space for that pair to swim in. Most people do tend to fill up their tanks with so much fauna, its hard to figure out which fauna they are highlighting. Well done !

btw, those tetras and mollies are feeders ?

thanks , these are only the 1st pair . There are 9 more in the old tank. I do not have mollies . Those are cherry barbs and neon tetra.

Discus and tetras make good tank mates . I never see Discus bothering my tetras even during feeding. I think Discus have enough problem with one another to be bothered by their little tankmates..... they spend more time chasing one another .
