Nice big tank. Will be better if you get some background plants on the left to grow up until perhaps just 4 or 5 inches from the surface.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think all cichlids including discus will prey on shrimps, especially so when they have just moulted.

As far as I am concern , yamato never survive long enogh to moult in my tank. I use to have upside cat in my tank too . So I am not sure who's the culprit.
But there are others who succeeded in keeping shrimp in Discus tank( not sure for how long) . In Amano's Nature Aquarium Bk1, you can see yamato shrimps in the dark background if you stare hard enough...

More Dicus transferred from my old 4 ft ......sigh algae started booming too....... 3 more pigeon strain left in my old tank waiting for transfer.

Your tank is cycled, but you might have overloaded your bio filters with additional 2x pairs of discus resulting in increase in NH4 -> algae bloom. Would probably be worst when you finally transfer all of them over to this tank.

Be prepared at the possibility of a nice coat of algae here and there, i hope not. In a tank of that size it should be easily under control.

mayb add some Otos / SAEs to combat the algae but i guess might have to look at the bio filter's effectiveness first

Yes , after increasing the number of fish to 10 Dicus +50 rummy nose + increasing to 3X80W 7 hrs , I started see a layer of brown algea and some hairy long green algea. You can see that the air tubes are bownish white .
After spending more than an hour , I finally scooped up all my 5 SAEs from the old 4 footer . Within 2 days, the hair algea was gone. Later I bought 6 ottos , the brown stuff was taken care of .

Last month , I down graded back to a 4ft aqua zonic T5 5X54 from a 80WX4 5 ft Hopar and turn on fan 7X24hr.

Now with Temp @28oC, I still have green spot algea on some plants and glass walls. Need to scrap twice a week. I have no cansiter filter, only use 2X 1200I/h power head filter . I change the wool every 3 days +only 20ml liquid fert seachem flour per week. Hope this is the worse it will get .

Fighting algae is a never ending battle. I've practically given in trying to "rid" my tank of it. I put up with green spot algae on the tank walls and on some plant leaves. Other than that its under control. I scrape it off once a week just before weekly water change.

Do your rummy-nose not eat your plants? I find mine eat small holes in my crypts, all but the crypt parva i have.

Instead of changing the wool and adding ferts, try to decrease your bioload first.

No. My rummy noses are not eating my plants . I used to have plecos that give me problems giving large holes in the sword plant . Sometimes its my Discus, they peck on leaves to clean up before laying their eggs. Maybe its the base fert which is not sufficient . Got to consult the experts out there.

Not much changes but here it is .....crypts not really growing despite base fert . Moss has been chew up by large SAE that's why drift wood is still bare. Sword plant is exceeding 2 feet now . The rest is OK . Some spot alea though.

Plant in the back left corner is called what exactly. Looks like like Pogostemon stellatus, i could be wrong. Whatever it is it looks great, if you could tell me the name it would be much appreciated.
