Have been trying to breed a pair of betta.
For the first 2 attempts, the female got scared shortly after nipped by the male.
On my 3rd attempt, everything seems good. Female followed the male around, occasionally ended up under the nest. However, mating just doesn't happen.
Usually how long they will take before they start mating? How long before I should stop and try another day?
how long did you leave them together?
are they ready for breeding? maybe show a picture of your pair.
what you can do is condition the 2 fish with high protein food like blood worm or brine shrimps, then introduce them together. provide some hiding place for the female.
check on them once a day... sometimes if the male is fierce, the female will be badly whacked and then miracle happens...

Sorry for not being clear.
What I meant it that after realising the female into the breeding tank, how long before I should take her out and call it a day if mating doesnt happen.
15mins? Too long or too short?
2 hours? Entire day?
2 to 3 days.... few mins is too short for them...
they need time to know each other
at times I leave them together for a week until they become good friend still not breed..
after 4 days remove female and restart mating process, 15 min its way too short.
