ck,
congrats! looks like a nice batch of eggs.
You lucky, mine still no sign of breeding yet.
Yes, look like nannacara anomala.
As above... I guess the recent rain helped?
Now this cichlid idiot needs to know what to do. Besides removing all the other inhabitants. I hope I do not spook it in the process.
BTW, is this N. anomala? From C328 but from the small communal tank at a fraction of the cost compared to those in the isolated small tanks.
ck
p.s. Pardon the lousy picture... badly in need of a ST-E2.

Wah!!! CK!... You are breeding dwarf cichlids!![]()
After removing all other inhabitants, just wait for the eggs to hatch between 7 to 9 days. I do not do major water change during this period. Then after, you will need to start feeding the fries with bbs with the eggs hatch.

Haha, Eugene, I didn't breed them, they bred themselves. Was kind of surprised since that tank was full of tetras and what Benny termed "eye-eating-gourami"... only fed with tetra bits in frequently and the fishes look too small to breed.
1 week for the eggs to hatch?! Hatch BBS?!Can I get away with microworms? I find it less troublesome than BBS.
ck
Yes of course you can feed microworms if they are easier for you.

congrates....i remember these are those Benny handpick for you...
i feed mine with just powder foods...they accept readily...these fries shall not be too difficult to raise....
Yes Joe, did yours spawned also?
So where those isolated ones the same as the ones in the communal tanks?
ck
hey bro, where and when did you get your pair from??
Hi Raymond, C328 as stated in the first post.
ck
CK,
those in the isolated tanks breed - 2 batches already
these are diff in coloration as the displayed tank - more ex one...i already (hope) that they may color up as N. auro.... as what Benny said.
Original spawn got eaten. A little update on the last spawn (i.e. parents died).
This is the closest I can go with a 100mm macro lens.
A more developed sibling with a 180mm macro lens.

CK,
Nice pictures!!
Any tips on how growing the fry?
I find these guys very very aggressive.
When shewas brooding the eggs in a cave and was hiding, shewas stalking the male.
She would come out occassionally and wack him then quickely swim backto the cave.
I was lucky enough to be there when the female went bonkers.
She just came out and did her rounds soI didnt notice at first.
After some time she stayed out and literally tried to kill the male.
Fortunately for him he was large enough and you can tell the female will be the one going to fish heaven.
She looked so shack trying to kill him and hanging on to his dorsal fin.
Its a first for me to see aggression at this level.
So I took the male fish out.
Today she looks much better and has moved the wrigglers in typically cichlid behaviour.
I've placed some moss for cover and the fry to forage.

For the first few weeks I don't purposely feed them. Somehow, the female manages to find enough food for them in the tank. Maybe the tonnes of loose Java fern helped. Once they are able to nibble on pellets, I removed the female from the tank (which was probably killed by the Laetacara curviceps trio later).
Yes, she is aggressive. During brooding, I found the male hiding amongst the Java fern bush, quite badly shaken. It didn't make it. It probably killed a couple of dithers too.
ck
Laetacara curviceps are MONSTERS!
They pick on one another and kill too!
Had one that fought so hard its lower jaw got ripped off.
Needless to say it died a slow and painful death...

update.
Fries colouring up with some iridescence on the side. They are starting to terrorizing each other. These below should be males (they look fat because I just fed them).
I think I had more males than females in this spawn. Or perhaps the dominant female killed the rest of the females siblings.
ck
ck,
those are the fries? wow they have certainly grown a lot and looking good too.
well done![]()
