hi guys, i just got myself a pair of A.cacatuoides last thursday but i dont know whether is 'triple red' or what.

sorry for bad pics. my camera just cant seem to focus when im shooting the apisto

i notice something about the female. i think yesterday i saw a very pronounced dark line across its body but today it seems to have faded away. does it means anything?and it seems to be more yellow too.

also, on the 2nd day i put them into the tank, it has always been the male chasing the female. but today, its the other way round.

Yes, this is "triple red ". Some LFS called it "super red" due to it's deeper red.

Yellow ? I think you better prepare another 1 feet tank to house the young fries soon. ( And they spawn every 3 weeks or so )

lol this tank is 3ft btw.
their behaviour seems strange, now is like the male is avoiding the female and i just discovered a cave in one my driftwood i was following them until i see the female disappear and the male stop at one corner. so i moved to the back of the tank and see a small cave and the female is in it.

Well, if the female keep going back to this cave, most likely the eggs has been laid already. And the female will attacked any fish that come close to the cave.

not really often, only once in awhile and the female didnt attack any of the guppies or white cloud mountain minnow that comes near.

one more thing is, the female will purposely move beside the male and show its belly to the male.lol so interesting to observe them compared to the white cloud mountain minnow that just keep swimming all over the place.

that's the apisto poison starting to infect you hebi they're infinitely more interesting than the usual tetras or your minnows. it sounds like your female is trying to lure the male into breeding so once he gets into the mood, you'll find a spawn (if it hasn't already happened)

This is the most interesting part. You will see the female swimming in a weird style,( like helicopter ) both the female and male flirting with each other ( flipping the tails towards each other).

i dont think the female has laid her eggs yet, but i tried peeking into the mini cave and saw a small red stuff sticking on the wall, not sure if its egg that i saw from pics other bros posted.

yup you saw eggs congrats on your quick spawn! now the dilemma: remove the dithers or keep them there? white clouds will probably decimate your population of fry really fast

Very nice A. cacatuoides "triple red". There is a possibility that she might have shifted the eggs instead. But not to worry, A. cacatuoides are rather easy to breed. Once they start breeding, the next thing you need to worry about is where to house the fries.
