eheim filters Under ???

Must all Eheim filters be place UNDER the tank ?

Or is it due to the start up ( when water in into the inlet that flows UNDER to the canister)

If i can use a small powerhead to drive the start up for the filter to work, can the Eheim filter then be placed on the same level as the tank ?

External filters only.
So far i know Eden 501 can do that ( Level with the tank)

Anyone ?

My view is cannister filter work better when placed below the tank.
the flow rate will be affected if placed on the same level as the tank.

The instruction hand book manual did indicated the min-max range of 40-150cm of the canister to be placed under the tank.
