I think it's the Montecristo from Colombia.

Yorky! Guess with the gears in your hands & not using, is such a waste. Shots like this will always be welcomed to share with us. Very beautiful fish, an excellent piece you have there. Always a pleasure to view apisto pictures taken from hobbyist.
Well for the top dollar that you've spend on the fish might as well put in a little effort like now to capture this superb beauty. A heart stirring picture of the apisto!
Great effort!
Thanks for sharing.

It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!
Again appreciate the comments from all.
As for the price, not really top dollars but just a slight premium.
For that, I am assured of quality and locality information.
I feel that's value for money.
Joopsg, I can't chio you as this fish was specially brought back by a dear friend.
Not any particular shipment unfortunately..
In fact, my buddy wasn't even drooling over this fish.. there were others that he thought were better just that only 1 box 1 pair. sigh...

If you could then, I think you would ask your friend to bring both back![]()

Thanks yorky for the enlightenment, I stand corrected.
Hmmm... the 'Monte Cristo' tag can possibly be referring to two different localities few hundred miles away.
If so, why bother to tag them with 'Monte Cristo' then? Hmmm... for financial reasons? With the locality tag, the fish do "sound" more exotic.![]()
Hi Yorky,
I find this fish very beautiful. Thanks for sharing.![]()
I think the need for a locality behind the name of the fish is to let the seller and buyer know that this fish is taken from that location. Apisto in general will yield higher price tag from Brazil comparing to those around.
So it's normal for hobbyist like us to at lease know where they come from hoping that the information is true and fair.
Financially higher price tag for a fish with a location name behind must be true if not it will risk the seller's credibility.
It is also to tell and differentiate the different locality strains available in the market. One species can come from a wide range of rivers and tributaries and they don't look alike. So by tagging them with the locality we will all know which particular fish we're talking about.
Amazon is huge with lots of undiscovered places therefore by placing a location behind will even be a great reference for future collection and study.
I would rather purchase a apisto with a locality then to purchase one without. It's very important.

Uhm, I think something is lost in translation... hahaha. Of all people, I certainly do understood the need for the locality tag.
However, in this case, "Monte Cristo" or Christ's Mount is a rather common name for small towns (note: plural) in Brazil. To an uninitiated aquarist, seeing for example, Apisto A "Monte Cristo" and Apisto B "Monte Cristo" can easily misled him to believe both are from the same locality, when in fact, they can be caught hundreds of miles apart. Just pointing out the possibility of this pitfall, that's all.![]()
Good effort there Yorky! And nice fish too!
Your pictures will get better as you practice a bit more. Now the folks can all enjoy your collection together with you. Isn't that nice?
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
