I noticed that there are some bubbles in the substrate, is this normal? I just added water into the tank last week ...

Probably just trapped air and isn't harmful.

But the bubbles appear only a few hours after the lights are switched on.

I just poured the soil in as per normal. However, I was experimenting with growing HC emersed and hence the soil was without water for 2~3 months. BTW, I am using GEX, not ADA.

Just tried it and it doesn't work. The glass is 10mm thick. As long as it's not some bacteria or algae, I am fine with the bubbles.

should be fine, just that the soil has too much air in them, now forcing it's way out.

I am also using GEX and have similar experience. The bubbles will disappear in a couple of weeks

But one thing to watch out, make sure that the bubble isnt from a green substance in the soil, it could be BGA photosyn.
