With reference to my thread earlier about Fans, HWChoy gave me an idea to use large grid (about 1 inch grids) mesh to replace my glass covers. I'm thinking of stiff metal meshes (coated to prevent prevent rust). Probably some kind of fencing material.

I figure the light blockage can't be worse then the glass I'm using now due to water stains, dust, etc on the glass. Actually, I suspect they'll be less light blockage.

I discussed this with a collegue and he mentioned something he devised for his Koi when he was younger. He used coarse fishing line threaded through a wooden frame to create a mesh cover, much like a tennis racket.

Now, the problem is securing this cover to the glass braces as it's meant to prevent an arowana from jumping out. Any ideas? It should be easy to secure and remove. Probably some kind of clips, latch, etc.

    Thanks.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Hmmm... interesting idea. Should be secure enough. Only that removing it may be loud and require sudden jerky movements which may spook the fish.

But, you lead me to think of using one of 3M's clips. HMMMMM... Thanks.

I'm still open to other ideas though.

if you remove the cover slowly, don't think it will be loud.
the 3M clips you are refering to, are the one with a little handle where you can open and close the 'mouth'?
those should be secure enough and is silent.

    Hi frd

Not sure if its too late to reply now. I went to Kelantan Rd the other day 4 stainless still mesh. They have many types. Maybe you can find 1 for your need. For 1 x 4 ft, i paid 16+GST.. That is the guide for your reference.

Thanks Apollo... I've only had time to try a few Nurseries at Thomson. Mind giving me a shop name, address or rough location of the shop? No problem finding Kelantan Lane.

Well, either way, there's still a cover... it's either mesh or glass.

actually you can use those plastic light diffuser to act as an alternative cover for ur 6footer. easy to cut and definitely much cheaper. just put ur lights over the light difuser to act as weight, so that just in case ur aro decided to be "fliper". one thing good about glass cover is, it wont injured ur dragon in anycase if it try to jump.

Vincent's idea of using wire mesh is to improve ventilation so that his tank would be cooler. At the mo, he's using some plastic sheet to cover his dragon tank which it's a bit too warm for his taste.

Sherchoo, it's glass covers not plastic.

Ronig, can't use diffusors cos I need the light for the plants. That's why I'm going for mesh to minimise light loss.

    Vinz,

saw rubber suckers which have a loop at gan.
loop is cut in the middle so you could slot the mesh into the loop.
    think about 50cents each.
