There is no real comparison, plecos can be quite aggressive plant destroyers and will harass bigger fish. They will whip up the tank and won't give small shrimp any rest. There are small bristlenose plecos that are nice, but they stay small.

VS

What is their difference? other than size of tank...
are both friendly to small fish and shrimps?
intend to get a couple to control my algae![]()

i guess oto is my choice then
read from the web they should be kept in groups
how many must i keep?
my tank is only 2 feet...
I put 6 in my 2 ft tank, but you got to feed them after they clean the tank they can eat the same food as the shrimps, but cheaper if you feed them blanched spinach or cucumber.
i think 6 is a bit too much for me, i don't feed my shrimps
they will starve together...any min number? eg neon tetra ideal is 6 or more
Well i suppose 3 or 4 won't be too bad, you will have to adjust to whichever is more suitable for your tank. I have a single oto in a smaller tank, and it seems reasonably well.
i will stick to 1 if 1 is okay
don't want to increase my bioload and fight food source with my shrimps
thanks
Oto is a better choice as namely it maintains its size and is less agressive than pleco, however when it comes to aclimatising both species, otto has been deem tougher.
pleco will grow and "destroy" plants
which is why i choose oto
Just passing by and saw this thread... thought I'd share my 2cents worth.
From my experience, bushy nosed plecos are best for algea eating amongst south american catfishes. They are true algea eaters unlike common plecos which tend to be omnivorous and scavange on dead animals/ fish in the wild. Go to planet catfish.com and do a search. They don't get very big either and I have yet to see any harm other fish and rarely ever harm plants unlike common plecos. Oh yeah, there are many types of bushy nosed plecos so have fun chosing and do your reasearch! Some require very clean water.

went to c328 polyart
saw a "yellow colour eel" algae eater(80cents) which will not grow too according to the uncle
end up still choose 2 otto
hope they are happy in my tank![]()
I didnt see any yellow color eel ? at c328 ?![]()
Maybe one of those whiptails, look pretty longish. A school of otos for a 2 ft tank looks pretty good.
Hi think the yellow colour algae eater at c328 you're referring to is the Golden Chinese Algae eater.
These are ok algae eaters when young but lose their taste for algae as they get older. Apparently they get large and territorial as they get older too. So might not be as good a choice as Siamese algae eaters (SAE)
read that SAE will jump out of tank
mine is uncovered![]()
I have one SAE in my community tank to clean up some BBA. It does not even surface to the water level, highly unlikely to commit suicide unless being frightened suddenly.
i got 2 oto in my tank, any ways to determine their sex?
kinda curious
manage to find the answer but still can't determine the gender haha
