A few days ago, a person was recharging his cell phone at home.

Just at that time a call Came in and he answered it with the
Instrument still connected to the outlet.
(Embedded image moved to file: pic26630.jpg)

After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man
was thrown to the ground with a heavy thud.

His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and
    burnt fingers.

He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Cell phones are a very useful modern invention.

However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument of death.

Never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet!

a typical charger runs at 5V at a fraction of an ampere, how can it electrocute people? plus the description sounds so "flowery".

charger exploding is possible, but I thought it was the the batteries exploding. and this problem is very real. I have witnessed several cases of ipod-type media players with LiIon batteries that have expanded (but did not explode) and forcing the player casing to split open.

adaptor chargers from reputable mobile phone manufacturers are safe. look for ce, tuv, vde, ul and other safety logos on the adaptor chargers. electrocution does not happen because the ac input is isolated from the dc output by a transformer.

There are just too many such "news" that doesn't make sense around. Just look at the spam (or should I address them as "chain") emails and SMS these days...
