jack,
Are putting the thermometer one after the other at the same spot? If you have a tank > 2FT and you placed it separately, will get a few temp difference.

i bundle the sensor together... the display is so much different... maybe must buy more expensive one... ha...
Even more exp one will have to bear the cost of spoil electroid. You can buy a oil thermometer to test which one of yours is more acurate.
Out of curiosity, what is oil thermometer? Are you referring to mercury thermometer?
IMHO, digital thermometer (powered by battery) is not as consistent as mercury thermometer. Digital sensors rely heavily on a consistent current level to produce precise reading. Changing the battery may help in your case.

Analogue thermometers are usually alcohol or mercury based.
Those silver readings are mercury (usually for clinical or industrial usage)
While the red readings are alcohol based (multipurpose)
You can get a good immersion type digital thermometer with max and min memory at the basement of SIM LIM Tower. Should not be to expensive. But a alcohol type is good enough in my opinion.
When ever i place 2 Thamometer 1 degital and mucury side by side, both showing diffrerent + - 1.5 degree.
Cheers
