Would probably take up alot of space judging from the size.

Not a good fan IMHO. Firstly, it's so heavy & it's to be hung on top of your tank. Secondly, it is using AC, which if accidentally drops into the tank.... Lastly, when I manually tried to turn the blower fin, there is a huge friction preventing it from spinning freely. Just my 2 cents based on my observation.

I still prefer the previous, sleek hairdryer type of fan (but the blower died on my after 6 months of usage. Now looking for replacement blower of the same size).

An item although designed differently but does the same job usually has a specific role to play a part. This fan could be used if you have a limited space to place a normal fan.

Personally, i find aquarium fans over-rated. I couldnt find something i really like eg. ISTA brands to mr aqua, so i had to DIY my own from old PC fans, its slight cheaper and gets the job done "silently".

The fan will jut out into the tank by 12 cm. The width of the unit is 17cm.

But the main "fan unit" is 6cm by 17cm. Hope it's understandable?

I have used 3 types of fan, this, by far is the quietest. In fact I can't hear anything. Can put inside the bedroom.

In terms of whether it's doing its job, I think it's ok. My tank water is cool, but could be cooler. But I am fine with it.

I have 2 of these on my 4 ft tank. Bought it over a year ago at Sam Yick and recently one of them have a screeching noise now and then. It was indeed quiet when I started with them and they cost me over one big blue note each then. I had to cut away some of the flaps on my tank (Juwel Rio 300) to provide a space for them.

I did not have the chance to try others, so I can't say much about their efficiency regarding cooling. My tanks hovers around 28 to 29 C. (I need to get a chiller somehow)

By the way - it's quite heavy for a braceless tank (In my opinion), as almost the whole fan is made of metal.
