Simon, is that all the algae that exist? I've got 1 type in my tank, black/grey in color wif spiky hair. Grown from a spot. Had 1 bogwood totally covered wif this kind of algae n from looking from a distance, looks like it was covered wif fur! Had 2 throw the wood away.

there is a type, don't know what species/type, which occurs on the water surface. it's looks like dry greenish/brownish dust. can be cleared by skimming.

    yes, it's looks like that.
i had it once before and it took me a couple of days worth of skimming to get rid of it. i have some of that stuff in my tank now.

My battle with algae just started. saw some green spot algae today after i clean it up a few days ago, argh.............. then got some green hair algae growing from alot of plants. put one molly and 2 suckers to test test to see if they die, not enough..... I think gotta get yamatoes and malayans today but scared waste money due to not so good water conditions. I will try to drop by NA today for the tetra algae scrapper. Got 5 very fat SAEs in another tank but dun dare to put in due to excess CO2. Now trying to aerate the tank as much as possible b4 adding them in.

I got disaster from almost killing the mosses zerocool gave me but luckily saw some new shoots growing out. Hope it'll not be affected by the algae too soon.

    Brigitte

is yours a newly setup tank?
can try changing 25% of tank water every 2-3 day until condition improve.
try to reduce lighting to <10hrs and see if those green spot algae are reduced.
for excess co2 you could reduce the bubble rate. are you using pressurised co2 or diy co2?

ya, mine is a newly setup tank. about 2 months old with plants gotten from various people from this forum. Will try your method to change water every 2-3 days to see how. I'm using DIY CO2 cos not enough money to buy CO2 system yet. now saving up for a canister filter first so that I can add in fishes first. Currently I'm using a bio-sponge filter to filter the tank and I find that it doesn't help much.

    Brigitte
