cherry red shrimps not red leh!

got some cherry red shrimps from NA some days back...
there is only 1 big one and the rest are quite small...

the big one is red like what i see in NA's tanks...
but the small ones are nowhere near red at all...

anybody has such experience before?
is there a period for them to settle down into new tanks before they turn red?

NA's cherry shrimps will show its colour once they settled down in your tank. Mine took about 3 days to see some colour(not totally red, they are still small). But first you have to search for them if your tank is dense[].

what do you feed them with?

i was thinking of leaving them alone with the plants and algae...

Bought from Na as well. Didnt expect it to be that small. Most are not more than 10mm. Are yours that small as well.

Anybody knows where to get cherry shrimp apart from NA??

just nice for my small tank...
think i saw some at Bioplast... but u better call to ask first...

I got 100+ cherry shrimps from NA too, smaller shrimps will not develop intense colour like the adult but fear not they may not be brick red but they are still red.

There are shrimp pellets for sale and the shrimps devour on the pellets. Man! it's a great sight to see a whole lot of shrimps together in a certain area looks great.

They are mainly algae eating shrimps but they still can be feed with BW and normal fish food[] Isn't that something wonderful! They eat almost anything.

I have quite a lot of cherry shrimp fry now and they are slowly starting to turn red like their mama

Yeah... most of them start turning red after they settle down. But those really small ones take longer.

i've tried to rear cherry shrimps from NA too, but with no success. what are the critical parameters to ensure they survive? my tank is about ph neutral (~7) and 26-28 degrees. i've not tested for nitrate, but i doubt it's that high, cos my fish has been ok for >3 months already. how about water hardness?

Irn-Bru, the cherry red shrimp has two strains, one is the cherry red form and the other is a brownish coloured one. it appears in some batches of cherry red shrimp. just a colour variation. shouldn't affect the rest of the shrimp though.

My cherry shrimp has grown quite a bit from my last post and many of them have turned really red! They are also no longer hiding and always out scavenging for algae []

Boon Yang, I'm not sure what is critical, but my tank's pH is about 7.2, general temperature is between 25-28 degrees. Low NO2, NO3 and NH3. As far as I know and confirmed with Chan, Cherry Shrimps are pretty hardy... in fact more hardy than the tiger and bumble bee shrimps.
