    Please help identify the gender of these two Apistogramma viejita

    hi all, recently got a pair of apisto viejita super red. the pair is not from eugene. I am having trouble confirming the sex of both of them. please help me identify. thanks alot

    [the first one is a suspected female, the second pic is a suspected male.

    First one is confrimed a male. 2nd picture could be a female, there are females with more red in the body colour.

    1st picture - forehead curve like a semi circle, red only pass chest - female
    2nd pictue - forehead curve with staircase step, red extend beyond half body - male that had not became dominant.

    yes agree with scope and he explain to me this before. i spotted the same head structure in my pair of normal viejita. Posted for everyone to have a discussion. will be keeping the pair, as see how does it goes in the next few weeks. As scope mention to me before, a quality batch of apisto fry, is affected by the colouration of the pair. if the parent pair is very high quality in colouration, the subsequent spawn will be of similar quality.

    Keep your suggestion and opinion coming in, as i think this will help all potential apisto keeper to take note.

    another point to add into scope observation for the female, when he discuss with me, notice the first picture, where the viejita have a yellow belly, which is distinct of a female.
