Before you run out and buy an expensive o-ring. Where precisely is the water leaking out from?

TKS guys. the water leaking from the 4 sides of the filter...the rubber seal between the 3 trays and cannister head is attached correctly already. i double checked. the seal along the filter head looks ok to me too.dont know why it leaks. even when i dont put in the 3 trays (meaning just water inside) it leaks too. HELP!my hse flooding....

Then it's most likely what moss_guy mentioned, the big o-ring. Or as you call it 'the seal along the filter head'. Doesn't take much pressure to make that leak if the o-ring is too old and worn. Get a new one. Most LFS will order for you. I'm not sure who has them on hand.
Alternatively, if you have a car, drive to Qian Hu and buy over the counter (if someone can confirm that QH still does that).

but it looks okay. no signs of wear n tear. so sure is the o ring problem? so changing the ring can solve the problem?

and to add on the shop who sold me the filter demostrated and it didnt leak. so how to explain the leaking that i m facing at home? sianz.
Getting into Fishy Business

At the shop, demonstrated with the filter running or just fill with water only?
At home, leak when filter is not running?
How big is the leak? Fast flowing like a tap, or just drips?
Anything else you think we should know?

At the shop it was demostrated with filter running with the inlet filled with the water tap hose..then the outlet had water coming out.the sides were ok, not leaking at all. the leak is quite bad, like rain water seep down the windows. by the way how to tell if old ring is spoiled?can it be seen visibly? And usually eheim filters, just place the fiilter head onto the cannister and clip them then it be fine right?

This eheim 2028 filter works without leaking if the inlet flow in not in the fully open position.as i figure out that the inlet flow cant be larger than outlet, if not water will seep out from the sides.THIS morning, i woke up and to my horror, the rain last night cause my house Main control panel (aka Electricity source) to trip and hence the 2028 filter kept on running not due to electric current but by the pressure...this cause the inlet flow to be more than outlet flow, leading to a flood in my hse. my 4 ft was left with only 10% water in the morning...just topped in water, no fishes die..........
TO prevent this from happening again, i just need to change the 0-rings?how do i do it????

I think it would be better to remove the filter first since it is leaking, until you get a replacement o-ring.

That's bad...
The 2028 part list is available at http://www.eheim.com/base/eheim/pdf/...28_prof_GB.pdf
The big 'O' Ring in question is the one beneath the top cover (#7343150). You need a tweezer or something to peel it out. When not placed properly, it also leaks. Another place with 'O' Rings are the two smaller ones near the part where you detach the hoses from the filter (#7444190). When these are frayed a little, they can cause leaks. Suggest you check them closely as well.
I have encountered leaks from both these types of 'O' rings in my Eheims but are now perfectly working fine when replaced.
Not expensive item. Can get from shops like Nature Aquarium, Pet Mart, C328 etc. Call to check.

Sometimes with the square Eheims, after using for sometime, the O ring has memory to the orientation of the canister to the pump head. So if you remove the baskets and start again, the pump head my not be in the correct position ,with respect to the canister body, and a leak appears. This was what happened to me before with a filter that was not used for a long time. I just rotated the pump head to another position and the leak stopped after 2 tries. Just my two cents. BTW the O ring looked alright just like yours.
