    Hi bros,

I am looking to get/view the following items over the weekend but have only time for one LFS. Apart from C328 (which is closed on Sunday and which I have more access to since I live in the west), please advise on which LFS should I visit to get/view the following items for my new setup:

(I am planning to do a hardscape (minimal plants - annubias) for L46 Plecos)

    1. Nice driftwood (long and branchy ones)
    2. Nice slate rocks
    3. Nice uneven shaped river rocks
    4. A good selection of substrate types (I need to figure out which one I will use this time)
    5. Good 1ft lightsets (for my shrimp tank)
    6. Good advice
    7. Good slate-like tiles and tile cutting tool (that I can use to make caves)

If there is no such one-stop place (where all the above can be found), I will slowly make a few supply runs over the next few weekends.

    Cheers

Your needs are abit unique except for the tank and lightsets. Since your in the west, might want to try Qianhu/CCk/LCK area LFS, but rocks wise, might want to check several LFS since they carry different types everywhere.

Looking for stuff takes a fair bit of time, im started cross country on several occasions, keeping a look out on which LFS is selling and what products they are carrying. I travel by bus so it takes me a full day to visit certain regions, namely -
    North
    Aquastar/y618/seragoon north/ADA biotope/NA/colorful
    West
    c328/polyart/qianhu
    East
    sengkang/Pasir ris farmway

Try NA. New stocks of driftwood and rocks just arrived on Wed. You will be able to get your equipments and advices there. After NA, you can still walk over to colourful, just a few shops away, to look for plants you need.

With this, you can visit not 1 but 2 LFS.

I suppose it will have to be NA then.

I have not heard abt Ecoculture for a while. Are they still operating?

Pasir Ris is a little far for me. Weekends is gf/family and errand time, so can only fit in 1-2 hrs to do LFS runs per weekend.

Of coz the savings is that I will not rush into things and have more time to plan/read up...

Well... just reccommending what i think is the best...of course there are many alternatives...

Which areas are you confined to?

That being said.. i won't do a one stop shopping trip... split it up.. you'll see more and give yourself more time to be better educated.

NA is a pretty good place for equipments....you can also stop next door at colourful for plants...

For hardscape...i still stick to tropical....i think it is worth it to invest some time into a good hardscape... they make up the base of your scape... you start with a sucky one..and that will ruin your scape...
some of the rocks and branches i have, i have been searching for for almost 6mths to 1 year....some even more.... i have a wooden piece that i was actually searching for 2years...
If time is not a factor.... invest in it...

Time is generally not a factor in this case (or so I hope)

I will want to decide on substrate soon and get caves built up... As for driftwood, I intend to spend time hunting down something suitable. Problem is, I will not know what's available next, so I will still end up buying what I think is the best from each batch.

How do I get to tropical via public transport? I am looking for slate rocks/river rocks and I don't even know what river rocks look like!!

i know NA carries everything you want except for the slate cutter. have never been to tropical so i can't comment on that.

i'm gonna try and make a trip down to NA tonight to check out their new rocks and wood! i'm starting to hunt for hardscape for the tank i'm setting up later this year since i've been warned (like justin mentioned) that finding the right hardscape can take months!

haha.. i only take months because those places are so far and i'm lazy...so only when i feel like it i go... and i don't buy...so i wait to see where is the best piece then i zoom in on it (this is after visitng north, south east west)... sometimes.. by that time.. they already disappear..so have to restart..hahaha.....but most of the time, it works.

Tropical can go by MRT to pasir ris then take a bus from the interchange, theres a couple of buses, might want to check with uncle which one, i remember working left from the newspaper stand, walk around the curve to one of the last bus beth. Once on the bus, its only 4-6 stops, look out for a huge Mainland Tropical sign and alight at the next bus stop.

NA: 143 from toa pa yoh MRT. or 123 from novena MRT. For 143, stop outside Thomson medical then cross the over head bridge and you are them. 143 is a surer bet as i always take the bus there then cab home after my purchases.

For tropical, take 88 from Ang Mo kio MRT or Pasir Ris MRT. The bus stop is just outsiden the farm.

    Cheers!!
