I seems to me that my Betta fish in my office is not eating the granules that I have been giving it. Do you have other recommendations for my Betta to eat as alternative??

the temperature is too cold which might bring the fish to hibernate mode?
you might want to give it a check whether it is due to the temperature being too cold. Not very sure about betta
    What plants to use???? Arggggg......

The fish is in my office and I set my air-con at 25 degrees.

Cannot be too cold. I put Betta Essence a little salt with water change every 3-4 days.

Right now, my Betta is staying at the floor of the tank, it doesn't move a lot. I mean it is almost like prone sleeping at the floor. It look listless.

A few things that I guess could have affect the Betta is:
    1) Same food. It is bored! (Can fishes be BORED with same food?)
    2) My office is really DARK when I am out. Sometimes I am not in the office for 3 days and the poor fish is livng in the dark. Will that affect?

1)it will be better for you to buy different food and chage between the two daily to feed your betta.
2)i don't know whether does it affect, you have to ask the experts here.

p.s if your betta is still with this condition,i think it will be good to look out for diseases.

don't worry... starve it for 2-3 days.. thereafter drop the granule and you can see it eating happily... what type of betta are you keeping? betta may look listless if its in a big tank... is your tank big?

Hi jackwolf, my tank is 12" long, 6" width and 5" high. Is it too big for a single betta? I've tried staving it for 3 days and I feed the granule but it is still not eating.

    Mine's Thailand-breed Betta.

    Perhaps it's lonely?

I'm getting some dried blood-worm for it tomorrow. I saw the Betta picture on the container so I assume it is for it too.

Yup, I'm trying out dried blood-worm tomorrow.

    Can bettas be lonely too?

I read that some Bettas need 'excercise' by engaging another Betta.

you can try putting a mirror next to the betta and it will flare.but bear in mind not to flare it for more than 10 minutes as it will be exhausted.

Just got another Betta beside this one. Now it's alive...

I see, they need to 'excercise'...

Good to know that your Betta is 'alive' once again!

On the subject of food, do note that live food comes with the risk of parasite infection so do take the necessary precautions.

I've been feeding my bettas, pellets from Aquadene for months and they're still fighting fit and happy I let them flare at each other on a daily basis too

To fire up their predatory instincts, might wanna get them live brine shrimps once in a while as a treat too

On the subject of darkness, one LFS owner was sharing with me that if you were to put your bettas under the bed for days (haven't tried that so I don't know:P), it will bring out the colours of the fishes! So the dark lighting in your office should be a good thing rather than a bad one

Plant-wise, can throw in a small piece of java moss or hornwort to filter the water

Thanks. I'm glad that my Betta is alive. It's pretty expensive as it is the $15 type. The other one that I bought as 'fighting partner' costs me only $2.50.

I don't know about the colors of the bettas but so far no change in colors as it is pitch dark in the office.

I mean it's so dark that you cannot see your hands!

haha... betta is the one fish that never would be lonely... good to hear that your betta is responding to a competitor now... some betta are "lazy" in nature.. like to stay at one corner and do nothing.. some are abit more active and loiter around the small tank.. as long as there is no sign of sickness, eg. fin rot, etc... its okay... i agree with specky7 that once awhile you got to show them competitor to make them excercise... then after sometime it should be more lively...
