Hi there fellow friends, I have another question regarding cichlids and hope someone here could help.

I have actually asked a friend about the spawning of P.taeniatus "moliwe" and was told that my softwater setup is wrong.

The female has been doing the thingamajig at the male for weeks now, with no interest show.

My question is, has anyone managed to spawn taeniatus in a softwater setup (ADA, peat, catappa, etc)? And if yes, were there any difficulties encountered?

Hope to get some information here.

    Re: P. taeniatus question

in my opinion, P. Taeniatus species do not have very strict water parameter issues. Slightly acidic, neutral water can they be easily bred.

However, they are very "bonded" creatures....secret to their breeding - develop nature bond pair - should means allowing them to develop bond pair naturally. In this way, they will breed in no time.

i had bred Moliwe, Nigeria red, nyete, nange & Kienke variant before, and the same rule apply

    Re: P. taeniatus question

I wouldnt really say that you definatly need to swap pairs. A few weeks is nothing. Keep persisting and it should pay off, they arent hard to spawn according to people i know who have kept them. Slightly acidic to neutral water should be best suited.

    Re: P. taeniatus question

My previous pair of Klugei spawn once in a 2ft tank setup. Ph then was around 5. Just a pair of taeniatus but they had competition from another pair of apistogrammer.

If you are not able to get more taeniatus, maybe you could trying adding one or 2 male apistogramma.
