I know enough that this is not a "Pencil fish" as labelled or SAE, but not enough to know what species it is. Rasbora? Kept it for a while, but didn't fatten up... Anyone?

it is Rasbora gracilis, the proportionately long fins is a good clue. try to get a pose with the dorsal fin erect. can fatten, but only a little.

Thanks Choy for the ID and tip! Just as I was beginning to wonder you did you disappear to...
I will keep them for a while more and see if they look different when they mature.

some specimen/population also displays a reddened lateral stripe (next to the dark stripe).

Oh, does that come with slight reddish fins as well? I have one like that but faded out in the phototank. Let me see if I can get it on picture.

this fish has proportionally larger dorsal and anal fins compared to agilis, and much more gracile body proportion too.
