    Hi,

I have this 2 feeter with 80% planted with java ferns, hairgrass, mosss, nana petite, and some unknown plant... . lighting is only T5 2x 14w.. DIY co2.. is the lighting enough? If not what should be the suggested amount of light?

Is there any way to "upgrade" the lighting via some modification on the existing lighting equipment(such as changing the tube to a higher watts one)? Sorry I know this question might be no belong to this thread but since I am here asking the first question... might as well..

    Thanks.

all the plant you mention is ok in low light, except for the unknown plant, since it is unknown Your light is about correct for 2ft low tech tank.

You can't just change the tube, you need to change the ballast as well. You can do DIY, it is not that difficult or get new one. New or DIY are about the same cost.

As long as the housing you are using can fit the new PL lights, it should be fine, just need to reinstall the ballast.

don't like PL... too much heat produced.. anyway I just bought a 2x24w T5 today.. hope it does not overkill... in fact I thought of modify it to become a 24w+14w(like I mentioned in another thread in "equipment & accessories")... maybe would be more suitable for my 2 footer..

    any advise?

More light with DIY CO2? That would burn you hard if you do not keep up on changing the CO2 brew. Spend more on lighting but not a dough on CO2? Plants are 40-45% of carbon and that is a very critical nutrient.

    Not too much but chalenging

The higher the light intensity, the higher the plant nutrient intake. So you need to dose fertelizer and CO2.
