since we're talking about filter here let me tongpang the topic:

I want to make a river bottom scene, only boulders and hairgrass, interpersed with clumps of crypts. I need a current along the tank (ie from one side to the other) over the hairgrass (improves growth!!) Any good idea how to create this and hide the rainbar (which will be around 6-in above the grass top)? And if the tank is 5ft wide the current not strong enough to reach the other end may be?
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Choy, why not use those internal pumps instead? They (e.g. the Eheim ones) are quite compact, easily hidden behind rocks/wood and and be positioned to provide a current in the direction you need.

Choy, any eheim filter that fits your tank capacity will be able to create a fairly strong current that will reach the other end.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Hmmm, budak is right. The Eheim internals have a little nozzle that sticks out at the top, so you'll only see the nozzles at most.

budak, interesting idea. so I just use the internal filter for the purpose of creating current, not for filtering (may be don't even put filter pad). Filtering will be done by external cannister?

No, I don't mean the intenal filter, although that's one possiblity. IThere are some dedicated water pumps available. Go see the Eheim site and check the pumps section.
