Barbs, tetras for sure.
Barbs, tetras for sure.
they could be hiding
my neons ate my cherry babies
only 3 survive to 1/2cm
they are safe now![]()
Actually, if you are not sure if certain fauna can be kept together, you can submit threads and we will help.
my guess is the barbs
The Yamato can be suspects too...
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
I'd say barbs. I have red line torpedo barbs and they constantly harrass my japonica shrimp xD Will have to move my barbs to another tank when they get bigger else my shrimps won't last.
No experince of yamato's
Agree With Bro Verminator, I had a same problem with barb attacked the shrimps

Not too sure..but Barbs got the most high possibilities, sames goes for yamato shrimp, last few days i saw my yamato eating a cherry, & the cherry is those adult size full red color one... geez, i still thinking want to give away the yamato or not, since its not first time it happen.
I have the same problem... my 2 feet planted tank has very small tetra, small platy, dario, endlers, sparkling gourami, oto .. each time I put in a packet of 10 young cherry shrimp(maybe about 1cm, those bought from C32or other type of shrimp, after awhile i don't see them anymore, not even the dead bodies... i have repeatly putting in a few times but the same thing happens... I have never see the fishes biting the shrimps. the few shrimp that still remain in visinity is the orange shrimps, longest staying... cherry shrimp, green shrimp, blue shrimp all no sound no picture...
could they have all go for a hiding? (if yes then one day i turn over the DW and found fifty of cherry shrimp underneath... haha)
Or maybe they die and decomposed in area when I can't see...
Will adult(those marked as "XL" in C32cherry shrimp be easier to keep...?
We have the same problem with our cherry shrimp... Started off with about 20. These days we can see about 6 still roaming around (I assume they aren't taking turns to appear; can't really tell one from the other too well). The only other fauna in our tank are 4 otos and 6 platys. Like you we have never seen the fish biting the shrimp.
Have you had any better luck with XL shrimps in a tank with fish? We have several of these in a separate tank as well (the only other fauna in that tank is 1 oto).
I agree with barbs, i have actually seen my tiger barbs attacking and eating my shrimps. The question is, does all kind of barbs eat shrimp?
All barbs will have a tendancy to be slightly more aggresive toward smaller fish. Obviously some more so than others.

what about platys? Do they eat adult cherry shrimp (around 1cm)?
cherry shrimp around that size yes! haha, most things will eat them if there around a cm. Isolate them till there bigger perhaps. Anything small and wriggly, small enough to fit in any fish mouth can become food i have found. Especially mollies, platys which will eat anything.
