I have quite a few nana tied to drift-wood. Recently I found that green-spots have appeared on the leaves and flowers. I tried rubbing the spots away but they don't go away. Do you know how to rid the green spots on the nana's leaves?

    Thanks.

I normally cut these away and hope that new leaves emerge soon.

Normally in a heavily lit tank, green spot algae will attack Nanas. Nanas tend to be sluggish uptaking nutrients therefore algae will parasite on them effortlessly.

The long terem solution is to hide them in darker corners or under the shade of taller plants.

    hello everyone,

if the green spot algae isn't that serious yet(ie. it is not very firmly "rooted" to the nana leave) you can try this:

dilute some bleach solution. 1 part bleach to 9 parts water. soak the affected leaves in there for about 1 MINUTE. then remove it from bleach. try rubbing off the green spot algae. it should come off easily by then. works for me.

    Hope this helps.

    Wahboy,
Yes, I think it will remove the slgae but it's not a solution to Nicky's algae problem.

    Nicky,
I would recommend you do something to prevent algae from coming back. Do consider Vinz's idea,
    Cheers!!

    hello everyone,

    thanks sherchoo for reminding me.

a few months ago, i transfered my nanas to my low light discus tank with CO2. now they grow healthily without algae coating.

Don't know if this should be part of the 'equipment' section.. but if it is, pls feel free to move this.

Initially I have 8x36W in my 4ft. After these damn green-spots begin to coat my nanas, I took out 1x36W from each of my 4x36W holder (I got 2 such holders). I got the 2 Ocean-Free lights from NA. Question is, with NA's setup of using 2 ballast per light-holder (that is, each ballast is meant for 2x36W PL), will removing 1x36W caused any damage to the ballast?

    Thanks.

Hmmm.... I know using 1 tube for 2X36W will work but for how long I wouldn't know. It will definate have dome effect on your ballast. Why not use 2 fittings, that means 2X2X36W instaed of 4X1X36W? Juz place them in the center which I think your coverage should be good enough.
    Cheers!!

Why don't you remove 2 PLs from one set and leave the other set intact? Then one of your ballast has no bulbs at all and can be left off.
