How to kick start a fluidized reactor (FR)

Hi,

I'm trying to use the Skimz FR (filled with Eheim substrate pro) but could not get the water to flow out from the outlet of the reactor. I'm using a 2000l/s powerhead.

I have also tried connnecting the hose directly to water tape. Despite the great pressure from the tape, I'm still not able to get the water flowing out of it. I'm sure there is no blockage at the inlet outlet of the FR as I can see water flowing in & fill up the reactor. Once it is fully filled (with some air at the top), water will not start to flow out from the outlet of the reactor.

How do I kick start a FR? Or is it the media that I'm using is not suitable for the RF?

Finally, found the root cause.

One small media stuck at the piping elbow, where I had some modification. Initial water flow into the reactor was without problem. However, when the water filles up the reactor, somehow there is some sort of pressure pushing this media & blocks the passage.

How I wish striking toto is as easy as this

Hi Ben,

I've always thought FRs should be used with a small flow rate?
Maybe you've modified for other purposes?

I guess it's fine when used as additional biomedia compartment, on top of my existing canister filter. Since the FR had been sitting there doing nothing for years, I was thinking of why not putting it in use.
