Correct me if i am wrong..
To trim blyxa, u must uproot the whole plant, and hand pull the side leaves from the stem. never ever cut the leaves, you will kill the plant.
e.tellenus however, can be trimmed normally (botak)
cheers,

Hi,
I have to uproot the whole plant? Oh my, have lots of them in my tank. Is there no other way?
Thanks
Yes there are two other ways
1) Leave them alone
2) Trim them and they die
(thats why after one experience of planting blyxa i have given up totally)
actually i read a couple of article and it states the exact same thing as what magic has said. however, some aqers have told me that they've tried trimming by cutting the leaves straight and it didnt' die.
i'm not sure but if you want to take a risk probably can trim it? i've just trimmed mine. lol so i'm keeping my fingers crossed.![]()
Hi!
I've trim my Blyxa again, and it turn out to be more busy than i expected. It works for me. Last night i've also cut half of the stalk into 2 parts and replant again. You can try one stalk first if you afraid it will die. Try not to cut too short. There's one part of the Bylxa block my crypt, so i cut it very short to test whether it survives or not, and it grow even more. Hope it helps!![]()

There is another method i'm aware of, commonly used in separating crypts usually. Get a sharp knife, pen knife or something, and hold the plant firmly in the substrate and simply cut the base. However much you want to cut away to reduce leaf count.
Alternatively you could just pull it from the substrate slightly to loosen the roots, or tear them an re-plant.
First option can get messy if done wrong so be careful. As far as i've read cutting the leaves isnt recommended, but its up to you.
E.Tennelus i just hack it to bits like a freshly cut lawn, seems risilient enough to bounce back bushier than ever most times, also encourages runners to spread by hacking it down to half its height.
