you have to have the hose filled up with water if it is your first setup. Cuz it needs the water to have the suction going.

    JJ,

    No manual?

Anyway, pour out the water out of the filter first. Then suck on the tank end of the outlet pipe to start the water flowing into the filter. When it stops flowing, start the filter.

Just make sure you empty the pipe before sucking. You only have to suck for a few seconds to get the water to start flowing into the filter... and let gravity do the rest.

What i'll do is take a deep breath and suck hard once then connect it to the filter and it'll do the job and not sucking it long enuff to drink the water.
    Cheers!

maybe you would like to try this.
    1) fill the canister with water and close it
    2) fill the inlet pipe with water and connect to filter
    3) using your thumb to cover the inlet and dunk the inlet to your tank
    4) turn the filter taps to flow
    5) switch on you filter

The top valve is the outlet, the bottom valve is the inlet. I think it does not come with taps.

    vinz,

tried last night and silly of me, open the canister when the water is full (after off power) and so i go a flooded living room

that aside, i found that at the outlet tube in the tank, the air was pumped out initially, then after awhile, it stop, no water come out.

i dun think thats normal. scared the pump head spoilt, is that possible?

Where is the filter positioned with relation to the tank?
What are the steps you took?
Do you hear the filter impeller moving?
Do you hear any unusual noises (anything you feel out of the ordinary, like clacking noises, etc)?

When you say the air was being pumped out, was the filter on already?

This applies to a filter that is just setup whereby the inlet and outlet pipes, and filter are completely empty of water.

The steps to manually prime an external filter:
    - Make sure filter is off.
    - If there are any taps on the filter, make sure they are open.
    - Detach filter outlet from tank.
    - Suck on the the outlet until water starts flowing thru the inlet pipe into the filter.
    - While the water fills filter, re-attach outlet to tank. (Do not cover the outlet with your fingers/thumb in this case.)
    - When the water stops flowing, start the filter.

    Vinz,

The filter is under the tank.

What i did, connect the outlet tube and put into the tank. Then suck water from the inlet tube and connect to the inlet valve. Then on filter. Can hear very loud noise, sound like the impeller moving. but very loud. sound like impeller hitting on something like that.

initially see air from the outlet tube in the tank. then after awhile, i guess could be water fill the filter already, the air stop but can see water at the brim of the outlet tube, just nothing come out. (rain bar not connected)

maybe i go try again with your steps and this time with a pail of water

    Position is ok.

The loud noise from the impeller is because the water in the filter has filled up to the impeller yet. Do not turn on the filter until the water has filled the filter and the water comes up to the brim of the outlet pipe.

I'm hoping you did not damage the impeller when you turned it on before the filter fill with water.

Suck on the tank end of the outlet pipe.

have you considered the double tap from Ehiem? I think there are other brands in the mark as well. The double tap will help you very much when priming as well as filter maintence.

as for water flowing everywhere, did you ensure that all rubber seels are placed correctly? This can also happen when it has not contacted water for a while and it sort of shrinks.....this is only temperory....once contact with water it will be okay

    david,

yeap, i'm going to get the tap once i get my wheels back from the service center :P

as for the water, its my fault, i went to open the canister while the tube still in the tank, so the pressure suck the water out from the tank push everything out from the canister :P

    silly me []

incidentally, how to use the double tap huh? connect to the outlet end ? then when maintenance off the top or bottom tap so the pressure still remain to resume normal operation after cleaning ?

Don't mind if I 'borrow' this thread

My 2213 occasionally will make some noise (from the impeller and gas, i think) and then send out a jet of ultra fine bubbles from the outlet. Is this normal?

    Appreciate any info
    Regards.

try rocking the canister to dislodge air bubble trapped between filter media. after a few rock the filter should be free of air bubbles.

maybe the air bubbles got trapped when you washed or when filling the canister.

are you injecting co2 into the canister?
