Melbourne Aquariums

Hi guys,

I'm here in Melbourne on holiday and managed to catch up with 3 LFS here in this city. The LFS have easily somewhat more than 50~100 tanks (2ft) here. Majorities are selling fishes. Large variety of them and they are all tanked nicely in undergravel filtration system. In one of the shops, they've got crown loaches sized 15~20cm which they have kept for ~10 years! They are huge compared to the 3cm one I had been keeping for a year.

You'll be surprised to see that fishes in Singapore are coming way more cheaply than you may have thought. Eg. We can get 50 small neon in Singapore for just less than 10 SG dollars. In Melbourne, the small neon tetras cost 2 AU dollars each!

There are marine tanks as well. Beautiful corals! Plants are only a handful, mostly the ones we can get in Singapore but priced much more too.

As for shrimps, no sales at all.

Overall, it was an interesting trip roaming and finding these LFS online. Just like to share my experience here for all hobbyist.

Sounds like the typical costs for countries that is not doing much imports and exports.

Who knows probably the tetras over there are from Qian Hu.

It prety difficult to bring in life flora and fauna to Australia. Probably that where the cost comming from.
