What you're refering to is actually termed instrumental learning or Operant Conditioning. IMHO, it seems more of Pavlovian conditioning. The knocking precedes the food in his presence, thus in his presence, the vibrations from his knocking predicts the availability of food. At least thats how most of my fishes learn to come over when I stand in front of my tank. But than again, it depends on how he trained his fishes la. If he presented food only when they come over, I guess its reinforced learning. But if he presents it regardless of the behavior of the fish, it should be strictly Pavlovian. Or maybe its a mixture of both kinds of training?
    Cheers,

By the way, we were training gold fishes to do tricks in one of our courses. Try it! Its fun, but you'll need lots of patience and some basic knowledge on learning theories.

But when doing training, do make sure dun don't knock or bang the tank too hard...wait end up didnt get to feed the fishes but end up breaking the tank..

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.
