    Hi all,

Just wanna show you all my new Marine setup which I bought over from Ivan. Actually, I want some comments about the lighting. Do you think its too BLUE? [:0]

I actually regretted (even though my bro said it looked great) getting the blue/blue tube from NA. I called Chan and asked if I could have it changed to a blue/white instead and he said it would be fine as long as I stopped using it. So I took a picture and left only the white AquaLux on.

    Tell me what you think!

Oh one more thing... is anyone using Carbon in your marine tank filters? Does it help absorb excessive ammonia/protein etc? I understand ammonia is also one of the components of protein, removed by skimmers.

i'm using carbon for my tank.. and i change it once every 2 months.. used it to keep the water quality clear and remove the yellowish tinge..

once your tank is established.. ammonia is converted to nitrite and nitrate... not removed by protein skimmers..

you have a bit too much inhabitants for your tank.. need to bring down your NO3 levels.. too high.. from the findings.. i can see that your tank filtration system is not able to cope with the high bioload... once it is established, it should be zero for both NO2 and NH3... i dun recommend adding more stuff...

yes,.. the issue of lights.. i do find it too blue.. u might want to consider the lighting requirements for your anemones.. they dun do well in blue lights.. the blue lights is more of asthetics reasons.

    Anemones pack a powerful sting!
Carpet Anemones especially, it would not suprise me if it ate a fish 3 times the size of it!
Because the stinging of the tenticles stuns the fish momentarily, and then simply pulls it to the mouth!
Many people underestimate the power of Anemones...be afraid, be very afraid![]

yes.. it is still pretty high.. i recommend not adding more stuff till your tank is stable.. and the NO2 and NH3 readings are zero.. err. have i mentinoed that? if so, sorry

Re: the filteration system, would an IOS be better at coping with such a case? What are the differences between mechanical and biological filteration? What media is best for each? Is there a relevant article or website describing/explaining this?
an IOS might be much better than your current filtration method.. however, i understand that it is pretty small tank.. like 2ft. never mind. u can also consider having a canister filter as well.. alternatively, u can actually run both of them together at the same time. u can never over filter the system.

Biological filtration is when the bacteria breaks down the wastes while the mechanical filtration, traps the waste. It can be said that the mechanical filtration will have some form of good bacteria to break down the waste.

    Hi eprouve,

Your tank is really nice....I really like it. Perhaps I should get more blue lights and do some rescaping on mine.

Sky Devil, save up and buy live rocks..they are the backbone of your marine tank!
Manderins only eat copepods, and in a tank under 55g with LOTS AND LOTS of live rock, they just dun survive..
5 clowns in a 2ft tank is quite a lot, too many IMO. 2 clowns and a small goby/blenny is plenty i think.

Man... that's gross. Thought it wouldn't be eating anyone (fish or stingray for that matter!! [:0] ) if you feed it sufficiently. Anemones are beautiful especially with a clown in it. I think I might try to sell something in an attempt to reduce the bioload of my tank.
